Window seals for vehicles and machinery

Custom window seals with locking strip for cabs, boats, classics and recreational vehicles. We match the profile and clamping range to your glass and frame thickness, in EPDM or TPE.

Many vehicle, cab and marine window seals are window seals with a locking strip: a loose pane is clamped into the rebate with a locking-strip profile and tensioned with a (filler) strip. The right choice depends on the glass thickness and frame thickness (the clamping range). EPDM is usually the basis because of its resistance to UV, weather and vibration; TPE when colour or appearance matters. What differs by application is the load, the environment and the fitting. DG Rubber Profiles makes these profiles to measure, even if the original is no longer available.

Machine cabs and industrial machinery

With fixed machinery and machine cabs, it comes down to vibration resistance, dust and draught tightness, and resistance to changing temperatures. The panes are often flat and custom-sized; the profile (clamping range) must exactly match the panel or frame thickness. Usually a locking-strip profile in EPDM, or silicone for high temperatures.

Agricultural vehicles (tractors and combines)

Tractor and combine cabs require robust EPDM that can withstand UV, weather, vibration and temperature changes. The panes are often large and flat and made to measure for each model; a locking-strip profile with a plastic strip is common. It is important to match both the profile and the clamping range to the glass and frame thickness.

Construction machinery and forklifts

Loaders, cranes, construction machinery and forklifts contend with dust, knocks, vibration and rough conditions. Flat panes are usually made to measure, and the window seal must clamp the pane firmly and protect it from wear. That calls for robust EPDM with an emphasis on clamping force (a sturdy locking strip) and durability.

Boats and yachts

Marine requirements are specific: resistance to salt water and intense UV, little shrinkage and long-lasting water tightness. That is why EPDM is often used, and TPE where colour or appearance matters (grey, for example). Fasteners and clips are preferably stainless steel because of corrosion. Also known as locking-strip rubber or boat window rubber.

Vintage and classic cars

With classics, besides the seal itself, authenticity and appearance matter greatly: original profile shapes and a visible decorative strip or chrome trim around the windscreen and rear window. Original profiles are often no longer available; we reproduce them to measure in small series. Fitting uses the cord method, and the trim is drawn in last with a locking-strip tool.

Motorhomes and caravans

Here the emphasis is on draught and water tightness (leaks are the main reason for replacement) and on light, DIY-friendly profiles. Unlike on heavy vehicles, factory-fitted windows often have clamping profiles without a locking strip, which you can replace yourself with a little lubricant. With maintenance, EPDM lasts about 10 to 15 years.

Made to measure, including for unavailable profiles

We identify your profile from a sample, photo or profile code and reproduce it through rubber extrusion, in EPDM, TPE or silicone. Read more about window seals with locking and filler strips or request a quote straight away.

Frequently asked questions

Which window seal do I need for my vehicle or machine?

That depends on the glass thickness and frame thickness (the clamping range). Measure both or send us a piece of the old rubber; we will then determine the correct profile.

What is a window seal with a locking strip?

A locking-strip profile into whose groove you press a strip after fitting. This puts the rubber under tension and clamps the pane and rebate watertight.

Do you also reproduce profiles that are no longer available?

Yes. We reproduce obsolete or unavailable profiles to measure by extrusion, based on a sample or dimensioned sketch.

Which material is best for vehicles and outdoor use?

Usually EPDM because of its resistance to UV, weather and vibration. TPE when colour or appearance matters; silicone for high temperatures.

Can I replace the window seal myself?

With a locking-strip tool and the cord method, it is quite doable. Clamping profiles without a locking strip for motorhomes and caravans are the easiest.

How long does a vehicle window seal last?

With regular maintenance, EPDM lasts 10 to 15 years on average; after that the rubber hardens and starts to leak or let in draughts.
