Rubber profiles for bodywork and vehicles

In bodywork and vehicle building, rubber profiles provide sealing, protection and a neat finish. Think of panel edges, doors, hatches, tail lifts and other structural parts that take loads in use or need to fit closely.

DG Rubber Profiles makes technical rubber profiles for trailers, commercial vehicles and other vehicle constructions. With a large stock of existing moulds, there is a good chance that a suitable profile shape is already available. If a specific cross-section is needed, a new profile can be developed from a technical drawing, sample or dimensions.

What are rubber profiles used for in bodywork?

In bodywork, rubber profiles are used to cover and protect panel edges, seal doors, hatches and tail lifts, and absorb contact between structural parts.

Which version is suitable depends on the function, available space, panel thickness and load. A door or hatch may need a flexible sealing profile. Along a panel edge, a clamping or protective profile may be a better fit.

D profiles

D profiles have a flat mounting side and a rounded outer side, making them suitable for impact protection, edge finishing and protecting vehicles, trailers and tail lifts, among other things.

DG Rubber Profiles makes D profiles in various sizes, hardnesses and colours, so the version can be matched to the available space and load.

U profiles and clamping profiles

U profiles are used on panel edges, panels and other structural parts. The shape clamps around the edge, providing protection and a neat finish.

On vehicle bodywork, these profiles are practical for panel parts where sharp edges need covering. The internal dimension is matched to the thickness of the panel. DG Rubber Profiles offers these profiles for panel thicknesses from 1 mm to 20 mm and more.

Rubber strip for sealing between structural parts

Sealing profiles and rubber strips

Doors, hatches and panels often need a profile that can deform enough to seal well. For unusual joints, a sealing profile can be developed fully to measure. For panes in vehicles, there are also window seals for vehicles and machinery.

Rubber strips are used as sealing, underlay and protection between structural parts. Various widths and thicknesses allow them to be matched to the application.

Custom rubber profiles for vehicle building

Not every vehicle construction can be fitted with a standard profile. Unusual panel thicknesses, special shapes or limited fitting space may require custom work.

A technical drawing, existing sample or clear dimensions provide the basis. We first check whether one of the existing moulds is suitable. If the desired cross-section is missing, a new mould can be developed.

This takes into account the profile shape, dimensions, hardness, material and any colour preferences. The result is a rubber profile that fits the construction directly.

Resistant to vibration, movement and outdoor use

Rubber profiles in vehicles face movement, vibration, temperature differences and outdoor conditions. Material and hardness must therefore suit the function of the profile.

DG Rubber Profiles uses TPE for various extruded profiles. The D profiles and U profiles, for example, are made in TPE and are available in multiple hardnesses.

A softer version can deform more and is suitable when flexibility or damping matters. A harder profile offers more dimensional stability. The right version is therefore determined by the construction and application.

From vehicle concept to production series

  1. Enquiry. An enquiry starts with a technical drawing, photo, sample or dimensions.
  2. Assessment. We then look at which profile shape, hardness and production method fit and whether an existing mould is available.
  3. Custom work. If custom work is needed, a new profile shape is developed.
  4. Production and delivery. Once approved, production takes place in the Netherlands, followed by delivery in the agreed version and quantity.

This makes the approach suitable for new vehicle concepts and recurring production series.

Applications in bodywork and vehicle building

Rubber profiles are used on trailers, commercial vehicles, bodywork and special vehicle constructions. The function varies by application, but often comes down to sealing, protection and finishing. For caravans and motorhomes, you will find more information on the page rubber profiles for caravan and motorhome manufacturing.

Panel edges
U profiles can be used for panel edges.

Impact protection and tail lifts
D profiles are suitable for impact protection and tail lifts.

Doors and hatches
Around doors and hatches, a custom sealing profile can provide the fit you need.

Why DG Rubber Profiles for vehicle building?

DG Rubber Profiles combines a large stock of moulds with in-house production and custom capabilities. This means we can quickly check for many enquiries whether an existing profile shape is available.

If the right cross-section is missing, a new profile can be developed from a drawing or sample. We respond to enquiries within 24 hours.

Frequently asked questions about rubber profiles for bodywork

Which rubber profiles are used in bodywork?

Commonly used solutions are D profiles, U profiles, sealing profiles and rubber strips. The right choice depends on the function, panel thickness, available space and load.

Can a rubber profile be developed specifically for a vehicle?

Yes. A profile can be developed from a technical drawing, sample or dimensions. We first check whether an existing mould is suitable.

What panel thickness are U profiles suitable for?

DG Rubber Profiles’ U profiles are available for panel edges from 1 to 20 mm and thicker. The internal dimension is matched to the panel thickness, so the profile clamps without adhesive or screws.

Can an existing profile be reproduced?

Yes. An existing piece of profile or a technical drawing provides a good basis for comparing the cross-section with the available moulds or developing a new shape.
