Custom sealing rubber

Rubber for aluminium window frames

Glazing, rebate and keder rubber that fits your aluminium profile exactly, made to measure in EPDM or TPE, including for obsolete or discontinued systems.

For aluminium frames you will usually need a push-in or roll-in rubber that exactly matches the profile number and groove size of your system, such as Schüco, Reynaers or Aliplast. EPDM is the standard choice because of its UV and weather resistance; TPE if you want a colour or extra flexibility. DG Rubber Profiles makes these profiles to measure, even when the original rubber is no longer available.

Which rubber for aluminium frames?

Aluminium frames are almost always built from a branded system with tight, narrow grooves. The sealing rubber is therefore system-specific: it must match the profile number and groove size precisely. A universal rubber rarely fits well here.

As for material: EPDM is the standard, with excellent resistance to UV, weather and temperature and a service life of typically 15 to 25 years. TPE/SEBS is a more flexible alternative that can be coloured (including grey, white or transparent) and does not shed carbon black.

Types of aluminium frame rubber

  • Glazing rubber (push-in/roll-in rubber): between the glass and the profile; pressed into the narrow groove with a roller tool.
  • Rebate rubber: between the fixed frame and the opening sash, for wind and water tightness.
  • Keder rubber: finishing and clamping rubber along the profile edges.

What to watch out for with aluminium

Match the profile number. Find the number on your profile or take a piece of old rubber as a reference. The insert size (for example 3-4 mm) is critical.

Thermal bridging and condensation. Aluminium conducts heat readily. In modern systems, a thermal break plus good (often double) sealing means less condensation and heat loss; hardened or shrunken rubber is a common cause of draughts and condensation.

Do not stretch during fitting. Do not stretch the rubber while fitting it: it shrinks back afterwards and causes gaps in the corners.

Made to measure, including for obsolete aluminium profiles

Is the original rubber for your aluminium system no longer available? We identify the profile from a sample or photo and reproduce it through rubber extrusion, in EPDM or TPE, in the hardness and colour you need. See also our custom window seals or request a quote straight away.

Frequently asked questions

Which rubber fits my Schüco or Reynaers frame?

The rubber depends on the system and the groove size. Look up the profile number or send us a piece of the old rubber; we will then determine the correct profile and insert size.

How do I replace the glazing rubber in an aluminium frame?

Pull the old rubber out of the groove, clean the groove and press in the new roll-in rubber with a roller tool, without stretching it, otherwise gaps will appear in the corners.

Can I replace the rubber in my aluminium frame myself?

If the rubber sits loose in the groove, usually yes. If it is bonded or vulcanised at the corners, the job is best left to a professional.

Why do I have condensation or draughts at my aluminium frame?

Usually because of hardened or shrunken sealing rubber, or a thermal bridge in a system without a thermal break. New, supple rubber generally solves the draught problem.

EPDM or TPE, which should I choose?

EPDM for maximum UV resistance and service life. TPE if you want a colour, need extra flexibility or want to prevent carbon black from rubbing off.

Is the rubber for my old aluminium system still available?

Often, yes. We work from the profile number and reproduce obsolete or unavailable profiles to measure by extrusion.

How long does aluminium frame rubber last?

On average 10 to 15 years, and with annual maintenance (silicone spray, for example) up to about 20 years.
